Selena Gomez briefly shared an emotional reaction to recent immigration enforcement actions before deleting her posts. The nationwide raids, carried out by the Trump administration on Sunday, led to over 1,000 arrests, sparking widespread debate.

The Mexican-American actress and singer, known for her role in Emilia Pérez, posted a video to her Instagram story on Monday morning. In the tearful video, Gomez expressed her heartbreak over the situation, saying, “All my people are getting attacked. The children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

Accompanied by a Mexican flag emoji and the words “I’m sorry,” her video resonated with many of her followers before it was removed. Shortly after, Gomez shared a follow-up post, stating, “Apparently it’s not OK to show empathy for people.” This, too, was later deleted.

CNN reached out to Gomez’s representatives for comment, but the singer has not addressed the situation further on her social media platforms.

The raids, which were part of a nationwide immigration enforcement initiative, targeted public safety and national security threats, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). As of Monday, ICE reported more than 1,100 arrests across several locations, including California, Texas, Georgia, Colorado, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. The operation involved multiple agencies, including ICE and Justice Department officials.

Gomez’s emotional response drew attention from critics, including Tom Homan, a former border czar, who addressed her comments during an appearance on Fox News. Homan questioned why Gomez wasn’t grieving for victims of fentanyl overdoses, which he claimed were linked to drugs crossing the southern border. He also referenced unfounded allegations about human trafficking, a claim previously pushed by Trump.

The raids and Gomez’s posts have reignited discussions about immigration enforcement and its impact on families, highlighting the polarized responses to these issues in the US.
