Environment Canada is warning of strong winds set to hit eastern Ontario and western Quebec this Monday, with gusts of up to 100 km/h expected by afternoon and evening. This weather will bring a combination of warnings, watches, and advisories, especially along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, where wind warnings are in effect.

The powerful southwesterly winds are anticipated to intensify throughout the day, posing risks to property, such as broken tree branches, damaged windows, and torn roof shingles. Power outages could also occur.

Boaters should be cautious, as gale and freezing spray warnings are active for eastern Lake Ontario.

In western Quebec, excluding Gatineau, a snow squall watch is in place. These snow squalls, characterized by heavy snow and low visibility, can develop quickly due to strong winds.

Meanwhile, eastern Ontario and Gatineau are under special weather statements for gusty winds of up to 80 km/h. Western Renfrew County may see a mix of snow, accumulating 10-20 cm in some areas.

As a cold front moves in overnight, temperatures will drop sharply, with lows expected to reach -15°C in Kingston, -17°C in Ottawa, and -20°C in Maniwaki, ushering in a colder-than-usual Tuesday. Snow bursts are also forecasted with the front’s passage.
